Ford has revealed the specifications for its 2018 Ford EcoSport SUV featuring several upgrades, including revised styling, more efficient engines and Ford’s new SYNC 3 infotainment system.

Banking on the EcoSport’s compact dimensions with raised seating position, Ford is aiming this car at young women – the main buyer of this type of crossover.

The front end now mimics the Escape, with a more sculpted bonnet and nicer front-end with the Titanium variant getting HID lights and DRLs.

The rear has also come in for a refresh with a new bumper and tail-light design, and it now has 209mm of ground clearance.

The big news for EcoSport buyers is the fitment of Ford’s SYNC 3 infotainment as standard across the range.

It uses voice-activated sat-nav on both Trend and Titanium models, while a Bluetooth and USB connection allow Apple CarPlay with Siri as well as Android Auto.

An app linking package also allows mobile apps like Spotify to be done directly through the infotainment system. DAB+ also comes standard across the range as does a reversing camera with active guidance lines and parking sensors.

The centre screen is 6.5-inches on the entry-level Ambiente, while the Trend and Titanium get an 8.0-inch touchscreen.

Emergency Assistance is standard across the EcoSport range, and the Titanium receives blind spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert.

Under the bonnet is a new 1.5-litre naturally-aspirated engine for the Ambiente, making 90kW and 150Nm, backed up by a six-speed auto.

Step up to the EcoSport Trend and Titanium, and the engine is a 1.0-litre turbocharged three-cylinder EcoBoost which makes 92kW and 170Nm, again with a six-speed auto and paddle shifters on the Titanium.

Inside, the EcoSport gets new trim and nicer materials with the centre console bin getting two illuminated USB ports inside. Ford says there are more than 20 compartments in the EcoSport cabin.

Packaging has been improved with a ‘flip and fold’ system for the back seats which is done by pressing a button.

Doing this allows a luggage space of 1,178 litres. And with a height adjustable boot floor you can hide things under the carpeted panel.
