Here’s what we know so far

The platform the I-Pace is built on is affectionately known in-house as the “electric skateboard”, and was created just for the I-Pace, but we’d expect it to spawn other vehicles in the future, perhaps in the Land Rover range.

The platform has aluminium as its majority, with the housing of the battery pack shaped to give strength to the car’s body structure.

Jaguar has already revealed the range for the I-Pace – 320 miles, or 515km, thanks to a 90kWh lithium ion battery pack.

The battery has 36 pouch cells which operate at a lower heat, which were chosen over cylindrical cells to give greater performance.

The I-Pace is powered by two synchronous permanent-magnet electric motors, with one fixed into each axle, split by a single-speed epicyclic transmission. This gives the I-Pace all-wheel drive, and makes take-off pretty rapid.

The 100kmh sprint is done in just over 4.0-seconds, and thanks to torque vectoring, it should corner. It is a Jaguar after all.

Charging time is said to be under 45 minutes, thanks to its fast-charge 100kW DC charger that comes as standard.

During winter testing, Jaguar perfected pre-conditioning which is necessary to get the most range out of each charge in extreme temperatures.

Jaguar says pre-conditioning times can be scheduled through the car’s infotainment system, or via a smartphone app. Also able to be set before a trip is the interior temperature, when the I-Pace is hooked up to mains power.

Pricing and full specifications will be announced straight after the I-Pace has been revealed on Thursday.
