The 2018 BMW X3 has gone on sale, with a clean-sheet redesign allowing the medium SUV to have grown in interior and exterior dimensions.

The new X3 is now 51mm longer, 10mm wider, 15mm wider and sits on a 54mm longer wheelbase.

Inside, the X3 receives the iDrive6 infotainment system, with the entry level xDrive20d getting a 6.5-inch infotainment screen, and a new, larger head up display. The two top tier models, the xDrive30i and 30d get a 10-inch high-res touchscreen.

The xDrive30i and 30d also get a new digital instrument display as standard, and yes, it’s a 12-inch unit, just like everyone else.

The xLine exterior trim is standard on the new X3, with matt aluminium highlights.

The X3 xDrive20d gets 19-inch wheels, while the xDrive30i and 30d get 20-inchers wrapped in mixed run-flat rubber measuring 245/45/20 up front and 275/40/20 at the rear.

Semi-auto driving is taken care of by BMW’s Personal CoPilot system, which is itself a part of the Driving Assistant Plus package (which is standard on xDrive30i and 30d). This gives you hands-free driving for 30 seconds, taking control of steering, braking and accelerating while active. Of course, this means that there’s radar-based cruise control with stop and go, but you also get cross-traffic alert and lane drift correction in the same package.
